
Energy Drinks Truths
It’s hard to avoid energy drinks today. The advertising is everywhere, from ones that will give you wings to a shot that will get rid of that 2:30 feeling. They tell you that you will be able to have better concentration, much more energy and in some cases make you a better athlete. Sounds like a pretty good thing and hey they are full of supplements that you can barely pronounce so they are worth it to buy right? Not Necessary.
The insane amount of caffeine and sugar levels in the drinks are where the burst of energy comes from. The other supplements such as taurine, gingseng and guarana really don’t do much for you. While they might help you with other features they won’t give you the energy that you are looking for. According to some researchers taurine can actually have the opposite effect that you are looking for; it can make you feel sluggish and not give you ample amount of energy. Ginseng is not known for it’s ability to make you have more energy, it is however, known to help you with your mental powers. It has been shown to improve cognitive functions of the brain. Guarana’s claim to fame is that it has about twice the caffeine in it as a coffee bean, so it is just adding to the caffeine amount. Since most of these drinks have a ton of sugar in them, it’s only a matter of time before you crash. You are basically giving yourself a sugar high. Not to mention that you are adding empty calories to your waist line.
So how can you avoid drinking energy drinks? There are a few things that you can do to get around them. The first thing you can do is drink coffee instead. Coffee Can give you energy for up to 5 hours depending on your own body chemistry. An added benefit is that coffee has a ton of antioxidants in them. Antioxidants are very useful in combating against cancers.
Getting enough sleep and eating properly are other things that you can do. Most of us burn the candle on both ends. We might only end up getting 4-5 hours of sleep each day. While it is recommended that you get 8 hours of sleep each night, I realize it might not be practical for you to do so. Still, you should try to get at least seven to seven and a half hours of sleep in a night. Making sure you are eating properly will also help give you more energy. Avoid eating foods that are very sugary. This will end up making you crash many times through out the day. Eating often (about 5-6 times a day) can keep your energy levels constant. Just don’t eat a ton at every meal. Eat several smaller meals through out the day.
Doing this will help curb your need for those expensive and sugary energy drinks. Remember when in doubt get coffee.
